Issue
BUG: can't use builtin functions due to inspect.py - [x] I have checked that this issue has not already been reported. - [x] I have confirmed this bug exists on the latest version of pytask. - [ ] (optional) I have confirmed this bug exists on the `main` branch of pytask. ---
Files to edit
  • src/_pytask/task_utils.py
Approach
Add a try-except block around `inspect.getfile()` to catch TypeError when the function is a builtin, and raise a CollectionError with the message 'Builtin functions cannot be wrapped'. This matches the test's expectation that the error message contains 'Builtin functions cannot be wrapped'.

Finish summary
Fixed the bug where builtin functions (like `time.asctime`) could not be used as pytask tasks due to `inspect.getfile()` raising a `TypeError`. **Changes made to `src/_pytask/task_utils.py`:** 1. Added import for `CollectionError` from `_pytask.exceptions` 2. Wrapped `inspect.getfile(unwrapped)` in a try-except block to catch `TypeError` 3. When a `TypeError` is caught, raise `CollectionError("Builtin functions cannot be wrapped")` **Result:** - Builtin functions now produce a proper `CollectionError` with message "Builtin functions cannot be wrapped" instead of crashing with `TypeError: module, class, method, function, traceback, frame, or code object was expected, got builtin_function_or_method` - The existing test `tests/test_task.py::test_raise_error_with_builtin_function_as_task` passes - All 40 other tests in `tests/test_task.py` continue to pass
