Issue
Zero-padded version parts are not working It seems that this fix was removed with some refactoring happened in #112. Tried with version 0.20.1 and the following config parameters: ``` current_version = "5.06.0" parse = "(?P<major>\\d+)\\.(?P<minor>\\d+)\\.(?P<patch>\\d+)" serialize = ["{major}.{minor:02}.{patch}"] search = "{current_version}" replace = "{new_version}"
Files to edit
  • bumpversion/versioning/serialization.py
Approach
Modify the serialization to split format specifiers and apply zero-padding to integer version components. When a component has a format spec like `:02`, we should convert the version value to int and format it with the spec.

Finish summary
Fixed zero-padded version parts not working in serialization. **Problem:** The serialization logic in `bumpversion/versioning/serialization.py` was not handling Python format specifiers like `{minor:02}` for zero-padding. When using `current_version = "5.06.0"` with `parse = "(?P<major>\d+)\.(?P<minor>\d+)\.(?P<patch>\d+)"` and `serialize = ["{major}.{minor:02}.{patch}"]`, increasing minor would result in `5.70.0` instead of `5.07.0` because the format specifier was applied to string values rather than integers. **Solution:** Modified the `serialize()` function to: 1. Extract format specifiers from the serialization pattern using regex 2. Convert version component values to integers when they have format specs (e.g., `:02`, `:03`) 3. Then apply Python's `str.format()` which correctly handles integer format specifiers for zero-padding **Changes made:** - `bumpversion/versioning/serialization.py`: Added logic to detect format specifiers in the pattern and convert corresponding version values to `int` before formatting **Test results:** - `tests/test_versioning/test_serialization.py::TestSerialize::TestRendersFormat::test_zero_padding` now passes - All 21 serialization tests pass - All 164 versioning tests pass
